One
of the most popular choices in online business is that of Affiliate
Programs. But what exactly are Affiliate programs and why are they so
popular? Affiliate
are people who promote products and services on behalf of someone
else. Some of you may be familiar with pay-per-click advertising
where you are paid when ever someone clicks on the ads that you
promote. Well affiliate marketing is similar in that you are
paid-per-sale. This particular business model has been adopted by many
organizations such as Walmart, Overstock, Dell,
Tiger Direct, American Express, Amazon, Macy's, IBM and many, many more.
Surprised? Well I was, the very first time I came to find out
the names of some of the businesses that were offering Affiliate
programs. Now,
why is this model so attractive to businesses? Let us think for a
moment of how businesses would normally run. First of all,
businesses exist to make profits. Profits are generated from
sales. The more sales made, the greater the profit margin.
Now the traditional was of doing this is to open more outlets and hire
staff to work at those outlets, right? This model brings with
it, additional overheads - the cost of the new location, salaries,
utilities and so on. Now with Affiliate programs, the only real
cost incurred by the organization is the actual cost of running the
program, which is much less than opening up new locations and hiring
staff to fill them. But let's take a closer look at the full
effects of Affiliate marketing. The company can now have tens of
thousands - if not millions - of persons now promoting their products
and services, and they only have to pay them - their Affiliates - a
percentage of the sales, when sales have been made. The company
does not have to pay regular salaries to poor-performing sales
staff. But the most powerful aspect of Affiliate Marketing from
the company's standpoint is that each affiliate can serve as a
billboard, advertising their products and services. The company
therefore gets lots of free advertising. | IMPORTANT
POINT: Because there
is a very wide range of products and services that
you can promote as an affiliate, would like to suggest
that if
you do decide to become an affiliate, you
should choose a specific category
of goods and services to promote, and build your business
around that. If you choose a wide range of
products and services, you will be faces with the
headache of how to promote this, and your
advertising bill can become quite large before you
begin to make any profit at all. the end
result will be frustration. |
Now to become an affiliate, you do not
necessarily need to have a website. When you become an affiliate with
any company, you will be assigned a specific and unique Affiliate ID
that uniquely identifies you from other affiliates. This unique
ID is incorporated into a link to the company's site, product or
service. When someone clicks on that link, they will be taken to
the company's website, web page, or to the specific product or service
you are promoting on behalf of the company. If the visitor
chooses to make a purchase, that sale will be registered against your
unique Affiliate ID, and you would have earned a commission. The
more times this happens, the greater the commission you will
earn. So it is very possible to become affiliate without having
a website.
As an affiliate, you will have
access to links and banners that you can post on your site if you have
one. The only cost that you will incur as an affiliate, will be the
cost of running the site - if you have one - and the cost of
advertising. As mentioned before, there are countless reputable companies of
varying sizes that offer such business opportunities. Most of
them can be accessed via online Affiliate Management Companies.
I have listed some of the major ones for you below. Once you
have signed up with them, you will have access to the companies that
offer affiliate business opportunities, and you will have the
opportunity to promote such companies as Walmart, Macy's, Overstock, Dell,
Tiger Direct, American Express and so much more. Best of luck in
your business
